Mary Ellen Wessels (MEW) | Wilderwood (Annie & Tim Walker)

Guests of Honor: Wilderwood (Annie & Tim Walker)

(from Lincolnshire, England)

Wilderwood sing and play songs and tunes from the Heart of England, both traditional and new. Using their voices as well as several different kinds of instruments, they give both old and original songs a new and distinctive twist. Whether they are singing in an ancient woodland or modern convention centre, they aim to enchant their listeners into forgetting their worries and stresses... Tim and Annie, it seems, have always played music, wherever we had the privilege of hearing them first: as part of Phoenix, Fleetfoot Mike, Wilderwood or Piepowder they've always had a wide range of music styles. In Filk, they found a home as well, and they have been an integral part of British Filk Fandom for almost 20 years.

Annie has a distinctive, strong voice. She play the harp, flute, bagpipes, Bouzouki, and a little guitar. Annie has been writing and performing since she was a child, and particularly enjoys strong, story-led lyrics in acoustic settings. Her voice has been compared to both Stevie Nicks and Maddy Prior. Annie has a passion for traditional music, good books, simple food, medieval history, firelight, creativity and the right of everyone to make and live a life that they love. Last year, Annie organized ManorCon, and we hope that there will be many more.

Tim can sing! But what really baffles us is that he can make any instrument produce music (Do you remember the musical towel?! ;-)) as well as play any number of instruments perfectly, among them the guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, cornet, drums, percussion, melodeon and whistles. If we didn't love him so much, we'd really hate him for that! ;-) Tim has been playing for over 30 years now, in a wide variety of musical styles. He also passes on his love of music through teaching. Tim has particularly enjoyed recording and playing live with people such as Roger Watson, Saul Rose, Gareth Kiddier and Liam Robinson over the past few years.
